CURRENT WORK
I am a research scientist at the MIT STEP Lab / Education Arcade, where I works closely with teachers and district leaders across the country as co-designers of teacher professional development experiences to advance pedagogy in middle and high school artificial intelligence / machine learning literacy. I am interested in how culturally sustaining pedagogy and communities of practice can raise awareness of issues in ethics and bias in AI systems among teachers and their students. BACKGROUND In 2021, I earned my PhD in Cognitive Science in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. My doctoral research examined how collaborative discourse impacts problem-solving, performance, innovation, and transfer learning. I also have a Masters in Teaching Middle Childhood Education and Special Education from Pace University - along with a dual teaching certification as a Generalist and Special Educator in English, Math, and Science. I earned my Bachelors degree in Anthropology from Barnard College. TEACHING Before becoming a research scientist, I was a classroom teacher for 10 years.
